In this episode of TFBTV, James calls out five pistols that he thinks are extremely overrated. Unlike the Top 5 Most Overrated CCW Pistols video, the guns are discussed by make and model rather than category.

At number five is the HK USP. The USP polymer gun costs around $800. It’s huge and hard to find. They don’t make a lot of parts for it. Some might defend it for the thumb safety, but you can get a thumb safety on the Smith & Wesson M&P series, which costs about half as much but performs just as well. The USP also boasts of a hammer, but you don’t really need it.

Number four is the CZ 75. It’s heavy, all steel, and the finish on it is like black latex house paint. It’s not on par with the Glock, Smith & Wesson, and even the H&K USP in terms of reliability. It’s huge and has a mediocre trigger. It’s got the slide and frame design that makes the actual grippable area of the slide way too thin. The gun costs around $600 at street price.

Number three is the HK P7. What do you need a piston in a 9mm handgun for? There have been guns prior to this that have all functioned perfectly well without the delayed locking system using a gas piston. The only thing a gas piston is good for is making the dust cover scorching hot after you fire two rounds. The squeeze cocking system is too complicated and adds very little tangible benefit. You can’t even change the barrel yourself.

Number two is the Taurus Judge. Enthusiasts know better than to own this gun. It’s a five-shot revolver that shoots either .45 Long Colt or .410 shotgun shells. It embodies the spirit of just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

And at first place for most overrated pistol is the Walther PPK. It’s one of the most gorgeous guns ever made, but it’s a heavy, expensive, uncomfortable-to-shoot gun, in the smallest possible defensive caliber. Parts and mags are expensive. It has a snappy recoil and shitty ergonomics and it doesn’t even have an external slide lock.

All the guns are over-engineered, overweight, overpriced, and undercapacity.
