A “cyber-rifle” is a device that uses radio frequency to cause a UAV to lose power instantly. Designed by Captain Brent Chapman, It can be made from about $150 worth of readily available components. It uses a wi-fi radio, an antenna and a Raspberry Pi computer to send out a radio signal to the drone telling it to shut off its power.

In this video, the device in use is a slight variation — a “Drone Defender”. It can operate up to 1300 feet. It interrupts the drone’s radio signal making it think it’s out of range of the operator which causes the drone’s safety system protocols to kick in. When that happens, the drone either hovers or lands. It is all mounted onto an AR-15 based platform.
